TLU's DeBlanc, Snider Named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior outfielder Christian DeBlanc and senior pitcher Dwayne Snider from Texas Lutheran University have been named the inaugural SCAC Baseball Players of the Week of the 2014 season.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 3rd – February 9th

CHRISTIAN DeBLANC OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior outfielder from Kingwood, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Saturday, February 1st  through Sunday, February 9th.

DeBlanc hit .500 for the weekend, scored two runs, doubled and drove in five as the Bulldogs won all three games over Chapman and 14th ranked Texas-Tyler to open the 2014 season. 

DeBlanc also stole a pair of base and walked twice. He posted a slugging percentage of .583 and an on-base percentage of .571. 

DeBlanc had three hits with an RBI against Chapman. He drove in a pair of runs in each of the two wins against Texas-Tyler. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman outfielder Chris Jones of Centenary batted .462 for the weekend while leading the Gents in hits with six in the combined three games including a double. Senior infielder Mark Carlson of Dallas hit .521 over the last six games including three triples and five RBIs to lead the Crusaders. Freshman outfielder Clayton Sparks of Southwestern had an outstanding week offensively for the Pirates not only hitting safely in all three games, but hitting at a .500 clip going 6-for-12. Senior outfielder Pat Hirschberg of Trinity went 6-13 (.462) with three runs and two RBI over the three games, crushing two home runs.  He also stole four bases without getting caught over the three games. Schreiner did not nominate anyone. Austin College was idle.

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 3rd – February 9th

DWAYNE SNIDER OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior guard from New Caney, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Saturday, February 1st  through Sunday, February 9th.

Snider took a no-hitter into the fifth inning against 14th-ranked UT Tyler and came within a batter of tossing a one-hit shutout. Texas Lutheran went on to defeat UT-Tyler 4-1.

Snider settled for 6-2/3 innings pitched with six strikeouts, four walks and only allowing two hits to earn his first win of the season en rout to a sweep of the Patriots and a 3-0 start.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Paul Arcement of Centenary picked up where he left off in 2013. Last season’s SCAC Co-Freshman of the Year tossed seven innings in the nightcap Sunday allowing just one run on six hits with five punch-outs. Junior pitcher Martin Cronin of Dallas pitched 9.2 innings en rout to a 1-1 record while only allowing two earned runs and striking out nine in two starts. Sophomore pitcher Teddy Turner of Trinity recorded two saves in 3.2 innings of work, allowing just one hit, and striking out three batters.  He came on with two men on and no outs in the ninth inning against UT-Tyler, and finished off the save by inducing a game-ending double play. Schreiner and Southwestern did not nominate anyone. Austin College was idle.
