
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior outfielder Von Wendel of Texas Lutheran University and freshman pitcher Brett Marcom of Southwestern University have been named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week after their outstanding performances this past weekend.

Games of March 3rd – March 9th
VON WENDEL OF
TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a senior outfielder from
Austin, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive
Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 3rd through
Sunday, March 9th.
Wendel delivered two walk-off singles for TLU to
produce game-winning runs against DeSales (Pa.) and University of
Dallas to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-1 weekend.
Wendel went 2-for-3 with two runs driven in
against DeSales including the game winning hit in the 11th
inning.He follow that up with a 1-for-2 performance including two
RBI and another game winning hit to clinch the SCAC series over
Dallas.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior infielder Mark
Carlson of Dallas batted .416 in a three game series for
against Texas Lutheran including three triples and six runs scored.
Sophomore infielder Jake
Pawelek of Southwestern continued his torrid pace hitting
.667 with a slugging percentage of .833 as he has reached base
safely in 16 straight games. Sophomore infielder Austin Singer of
Trinity batted .400 (6-15) with a team-high five RBI for the
four games, including a game-winning RBI in the ninth inning
against Austin College on Saturday. He cracked the
late-inning single to put Trinity up 3-2 heading into the bottom of
the ninth, keeping the Tiger winning streak alive. Austin College, Centenary, and Schreiner did not nominate
anyone.

BRETT MARCOM
OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a freshman right handed
pitcher from Keller, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball
Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 3rd through
Sunday, March 9th.
Marcom threw a seven inning no-hitter Saturday
afternoon facing just three batters over the minimum for his second
win of the year and gave Southwestern their first SCAC victory of
the year over Schreienr.
He recorded five strikeouts and just two walks for the complete
game shutout.
For Marcom, it was his second win of the season
to go to 2-3 and his first complete game shutout of his young
career. He leads the team with 17 strikeouts on the year.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Blaine
Tew of Austin College had an outstanding performance in a
loss to Trinity, surrendering three runs on seven hits in 8.1
innings of work. Junior
pitcher Layton Tromba of Centenary pitched nine, scoreless
frames and scattered just one hit in the outing while fanning five
batters. Freshman pitcher
Evan Eubanks of Dallas pitched 6.1 innings while only two
runs on three hits and struck out four as he fell just two outs
short of a no hitter. Senior pitcher Ethan Cataliani of
Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers to a 5-1 week with
wins over DeSales University, Cardinal Stritch University and
Southwestern University with 11 innings pitched, where he allowed
only 2 hits, had 12 strike outs and 1 walk. Junior pitcher Aaron Aleman of Texas
Lutheran notched his fourth win of the season with six
innings of work in a conference victory over University of Dallas.
Aleman struck out four, walked two, and allowed only four hits.
Sophomore pitcher Ryan
Gray of Trinity struck out 14 batters and allowed just one
run on two hits over eight innings of work, improving his season
record to 2-0 in the process. He recorded at least one
strikeout in each inning he pitched in the game.
