Trinity's Wolf; Schreiner's Barnett Named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore outfielder Jeremy Wolf of Trinity University and sophomore pitcher Matt Barnett of the Schreiner University has been named SCAC Baseball Players of the Week for their outstanding performance this past weekend.



 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  April 14th – 20th

JEREMY WOLF OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore outfielder from Scottsdale, Ariz., has been selected the SCAC Baseball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 14th through Sunday, April 20th.

Wolf led Trinity to a road series win at Centenary over the weekend, taking two out of three games against the Gents.

Wolf hit .455 (5-11) for the weekend, scoring two runs to go with three RBI, and cracking three doubles among his five total hits.  In game two of the series, he was 3-4 with three RBI.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior infielder James Saulnier of Austin College batted .500 (4-for-8) with four RBI and also scored three times as the 'Roos went 1-2 in their final home series of the season. Freshman outfielder Aaron Quintanilla of Centenary registered five hits, including a double, and drove in three runs – both team-bests for the weekend. The freshman recorded a .455 batting average and scored twice over the three games along with two swipes. Senior outfielder Alex Thornton of Dallas registered four hits, and drove in four runs – both team-bests for the weekend. Sophomore outfielder Will Cates of Southwestern paced the Pirate offense going 4-for-8 with a double and an RBI in the first two games of the series. Senior outfielder Christian DeBlanc of Texas Lutheran hit .500 (7-for-14) in a 3-1 week for the Bulldogs. In addition to being the winning pitcher in the mid-week victory over Houston-Victoria, DeBlanc collected seven hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Schreiner did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK

MATT BARNETT OF SCHREINER UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right handed pitcher from Goliad, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, April 14th through Sunday, April 20th.

Barnett put together a brilliant effort to lead Schreiner to a game one win over Texas Lutheran University

Barnett went seven complete innings, allowing only five hits and walking one while striking out one in a 2-0 road win over the Bulldogs

Barnett picked up his fourth win of the season while moving his ERA to 3.74.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Holden Novak of Centenary tossed 6.0 innings to log the only win on the bump for the Gents. Novak allowed just one earned run in action while giving up five hits and striking out a pair. Junior pitcher Martin Cronin of Dallas tossed 7.0 innings, striking out six and only allowing five hits in a no decision. Junior pitcher Matt Litz of Southwestern went 1-0 against Dallas making two relief appearances in the series. He allowed just one hit and struck out five helping the Pirates clinch the final spot in the SCAC Tournament. Junior pitcher Aaron Aleman of Texas Lutheran spun a complete-game four-hitter in the early game Saturday, a 7-1 win over Schreiner. Junior pitcher Zack Speer of Trinity went 5.0 innings in the team's 12-3 victory, giving up just two hits and two walks against his six strikeouts. Austin College did not nominate anyone.
