Trinity's Muscarello, Hirschberg Named D3baseball.com Preseason All-Americans

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Trinity University seniors Christian Muscarello and Pat Hirschberg earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Preseason All-American Team earlier this week. 

Muscarello, named First Team Preseason All-American as a SS, led the Tigers in runs scored, with 52 in 2013. He batted .377 (69-183), and accounted for 35 RBI, three home runs, and 11 doubles while earning All-SCAC honors as well as All-Region honors.

In 2011-12, Muscarello led Trinity with 17 doubles this season, and was second on the team in batting average. He is a three year starter on a team that has made two straight Regional Finals. He has also earned All-SCAC honors all three seasons with the Tigers.

Hirschberg, named Second Team Preseason All-American as an outfielder, had a breakout year as he was named the SCAC Co-Player of the Year after finishing in the top five of nearly every offensive category in the conference.

Hirschberg led the Tigers in batting average (.385), slugging percentage (.701), RBI (54), triples (seven), home runs (nine), and total bases (122). Hirschberg earned ABCA and D3baseball.com All-American honors as well as All-Region and All-SCAC. He also earned a slot on the SCAC All-Tournament Team, with a batting average of .625, six RBI, and three runs.

Trinity, led by 16th-year Head Coach Tim Scannell, starts the year off ranked No. 5 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball Magazine with more Preseason Polls to come. The Tigers open the 2014 season Feb. 7 by hosting the 11th-ranked University of Texas-Tyler, a team which the Tigers beat in the Regional Tournament.
