LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Derek Kanas and Dwayne Snider of Texas Lutheran University and Pat Hirschberg of Trinity University were all recognized for their outstanding work in the classroom as the College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) announced the Capital One Academic All-District Teams on Thursday.

Kanas, Snider, and Hirschberg all earned spots on the District 8 Academic All-District Team and were the only SCAC players on the team.

Kanas has now been named to each of the last two Capital One Academic All-District squads and carries a 3.84 grade-point average while majoring in physics. The senior also just came away with TLU's 2013-14 Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year during Wednesday's awards program.

The first baseman and designated hitter is hitting .305 on the year and is currently second in the SCAC with 11 doubles.

Snider earned his first Academic All-District honors. The senior carries a 3.64 GPA in aviation management and has also been a workhorse on the mound for the Bulldogs.

The senior leads the SCAC with a miniscule 1.60 ERA while racking up a 5-3 record with a team-leading 73 and 1/3 innings of work. He's given up just 13 earned runs while holding opponents to a .219 batting average.

Hirschberg, an All-American last season as well as the 2014 SCAC Player of the Year, earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-American Second Team a year ago. He currently carries a 3.81 GPA as he works towards his Masters in Business Administration/Accounting.

The senior leads the league with seven home runs to go with 37 RBIs (second in the SCAC) and 42 runs scored (second in the SCAC). He has been a major part to Trinity earning another Top 10 ranking in the major polls throughout the year and the No. 1 seed in the SCAC Baseball Championship this weekend. The Tigers are looking for their fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Regionals

Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

All three players will be in action this weekend as they will compete in the 2014 SCAC Baseball Championship in San Antonio, Texas on the campus of Trinity University.

Hirschberg and the Tigers will be in action on Friday at 1 p.m. against Southwestern while Kanas and Snider follow that up with a 4:30 p.m. matchup pitting the Bulldogs against Centenary.
