SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Former Trinity Tigers All-America pitcher Ryan Lucero is a member of the Sioux City (Iowa) Explorers of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.

Last season, the recent Trinity grad earned All-America honors for the second consecutive year. Lucero was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-America Team, and to the D3baseball.com All-America Team. In addition, Lucero was elected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year.

The left-handed Lucero recorded a superb 10-1 record during the 2013 season. He led the SCAC in wins (10), strikeouts (80), and opponents' batting average (.209). Lucero ranked in the top five in ERA (1.98, second place), innings pitched (82.0, third place), and complete games (four, fourth place).

The Tigers, with Head Coach Tim Scannell, completed the season with a 40-9 record, which established a school mark for victories in a season. Coach Scannell was elected SCAC Co-Coach of the Year. It was the fourth straight time he attained the conference's highest honor, and a SCAC-best eighth overall.

Trinity won a seventh SCAC Championship with Coach Scannell's leadership. The Tigers advanced to the NCAA Division III playoffs for the fourth straight year, and came within one game of a trip to the DIII College World Series - losing to eventual champion, Linfield College. It marked the fifth time the Tigers competed in the Regional final.
