Trinity falls to Whitworth in NCAA  West Regional play

 MCMINNVILLE, Ore. - Whitworth University proved too much for the Trinity Tigers, as the Pirates used a big fifth and sixth inning to break open a 3-0 game, en route to a 12-0 win in NCAA West regional play at Roy Hesler Field/Jim Wright Stadium. Box Score | West Regional

Trinity fell to 36-11 on the season while Whitworth improved to 29-14-1. Trinity will play Coe (Iowa) tomorrow at 12 p.m. PST and the winner will meet Whitworth in the West Regional championship game at approximately 3:30 p.m. PST tomorrow afternoon.

Whitworth jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second before the Pirates put the game out of reach in the fifth inning. In the fifth, Whitworth plated six runs to go up 9-0 before adding three more in the sixth inning.

Whitworth was led by Kevin Valerio. Valerio was 3 for 5 with four RBI and scored a run. Teammate Paul Miller was 2 for 2 with three RBI.

Trinity's Dominick Robusto was the only Tiger to tally a multi-hit game as he finished the game 2 for 5.
