
JACKSON, Miss. - Hendrix First-year pitcher
Caleb Schallawitz held a powerful Trinity offense to one run on
only three hits and struck out two in an 11-1 seven inning victory
that gave the Hendrix College Warriors its first ever SCAC baseball
championship and the school's first men's SCAC championship in any
sport. The Warriors went through the tournament undefeated and earn
the SCAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Baseball
Championship.
Schallawitz dominated a Tiger offense that totaled 68 hits and
averaged 12 runs per game in its four previous SCAC Tournament
games.
The Warriors pounded out 18 hits, which included at least one hit
by everyone in the lineup, and did most of its damage thanks to a
four run third inning and a four run fourth inning. Hendrix's No.
1-6 hitters went a combinded 13-23 (.565) and drove in eight of the
teams' 11 runs. Warriors right fielder Nathan Harr went 3-for-4
with a run scored and drove in two runs. Teammate Daniel Ward went
1-for-3 highlighted by his two run home run to left field in the
bottom of the fifth. Ward finished the day with two runs scored and
two RBI.
Trinity center fielder Dylan Early drove in the lone Tigers' run
with a solo home run to right field in the top of the fifth inning.
Early finished the day 1-for-3 with a run scored and drove in a
run.
Hendrix improved to 22-21 on the season as the Warriors will wait
for its draw in the NCAA Division III regionals, which will be
announced Monday May 11. Trinity finished its season at 24-21.
