SCAC to Host Inaugural Women in Athletics Leadership Symposium

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference will host its inaugural Women in Athletics Leadership Symposium, June 26-27, in Dallas, Texas. Official Symposium Website

The event is designed to provide professional development opportunities to prepare female administrators, coaches and student-athletes to be better prepared to administer in today's challenging environment.

The SCAC Women in Athletics Leadership Symposium – the first event of its kind in conference history – is being funded in part by the NCAA Division III Strategic Initiatives Grant Program.

"We are excited to offer two days of programming for our female administrators and coaches, and select student-athletes who have indicated an interest in pursuing a career in athletics administration," said SCAC Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. "The SCAC isn't an outlier by any stretch, but we recognize that a limited number of females are presently holding leadership positions within our conference. We need to be proactive in promoting future opportunities for this underrepresented group, thereby increasing our talent pipeline and lifting our profession to higher levels. The more diverse our voices at senior levels, the more we improve all of our student-athlete experiences. Any tool or resource we can provide to make it easier for someone to step forward is time and money well spent."

The symposium begins on Wednesday evening with a keynote address from Nicole LaVoi, the Co-Director of the Tucker Center for Research on Girls and Women in Sport. Programming will continue and take place throughout the day on Thursday. The event is being conducted at the Embassy Suites - Love Field.
