SCAC Announces 2017-18 Championship Venues

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The SCAC today announced championship venues for the 2017-18 athletics season.

Among the sites selected to host SCAC championships this season are several first-time hosting venues, including the Panther Trail Golf Course at The Woodlands, Texas, for the Men's and Women's Golf Championships as well as the Depot at Cleburne Station in Cleburne, Texas, for the Baseball Championship.

"Our student-athletes will be afforded an opportunity to participate at many first class venues throughout conferece postseason play this year," said SCAC commissioner Dwayne Hanberry.

In a slight twist from tradition where either member institutions or the conference office is in charge of hosting duties, the City of Shenandoah (Texas) will host the 2018 SCAC Men's and Women's Golf Championships at Panther Trail. No stranger to hosting NCAA events, the city has co-hosted three Division III Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving national champinoships (along with the SCAC) and is slated to host the 2018 and 2019 Division III Football Championship as well as the 2022 Division III Women's Golf Championship.

"The City of Shenandoah is excited to be hosting the SCAC golf conference championship for both men and woman in 2018," said city administrator Greg Smith. "It will be exciting to have the exceptional students-athletes in town and watching them excel. We look forward to a continued partnership with the SCAC and the NCAA DIII student-athletes."

The conference also found a new partner for its baseball championship as the Cleburne Railroaders, an independent professional baseball team that plays in the American Association, will open its doors to the SCAC in 2018. The Depot at Cleburne Station opened this past May and has already been selected by fans as their favorite independent-baseball ballpark in the annual Ballpark Digest Best of the Ballparks vote, winning 2017 honors.

"The City of Cleburne and the Railroaders Organization could not be more honored to host the SCAC conference baseball tournament in 2018," said Railroaders President/GM Robbie Fenyes. "Hosting this event aligns perfectly with the vision of the City to build this facility as a multi-purpose destination. As operators of the Depot Stadium, we strive to find great events for the Community outside of Cleburne Railroaders Baseball and this tournament fits perfectly."

"We hope this is the start of a long relationship with the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, the Railroaders and the City of Cleburne."

Additionally, Colorado College will host two championships in the same year for the first time since joining the confernece in 2006. The SCAC Men's and Women's Basketball Championships as well as the SCAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships will both be conducted on campus in February and April of 2018, respectively.
