Texas Lutheran SAAC Wins Inaugural SCAC "Change For The Better" Contest

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference office announced today that the Texas Lutheran University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is the winner of the league's inaugural "Change For The Better" campaign.

Approved by the SCAC SAAC at that group's meeting this past summer, the "Change for the Better" contest allowed each member institution to choose one home basketball weekend (during either January or February) and then attempt to collect as much change as possible from fans, parents and students in support of a chosen charity over the course of that weekend.

Five of the league's eight Student-Athlete Advisory Committees participated in this inaugural effort with a total of $813.47 raised for various charitable organizations.

The results, with the school's chosen charity in parentheses, are listed below:

1. Texas Lutheran - $339.24 (Susan G. Komen)
2. Southwestern - $181.25 (BIG - Brookwood in Georgetown)
3. Austin College - $150.00 (Special Olympics)
4. Trinity - $115.43 (Special Olympics)
5. Centenary - $27.55 (Special Olympics)

Additionally, the SCAC office conducted its annual sale of autographed basketballs at the 2016 Men's and Women's Basketball Touranment last weekend in Shreveport. That effort raised an additional $300 which will be donated to Special Olympics.
