Five SCAC Student-Athletes Named to Academic All-Region At-Large Team

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Colorado College men's swimmer Kaleb Roush and women's swimmer Emma Holmes as well as Trinity University men’s swimmer Stephen Culberson, women’s diver Katie Sheldon, and women’s golfer Brigette Lee have been elected to the Capital One Academic Division III All-District 8 At-Large Teams.

Voting is conducted by the membership of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The national Academic All-America Teams will be announced June 3.

On the women's side, Sheldon is a senior biology major with a 3.76 GPA. During the NCAA Championships, Sheldon recorded an eighth-place finish in the 1-meter event, achieving All-America honors for the third time on the low board.

Lee is a sophomore biochemistry and molecular biology major with a 3.99 GPA. Last April, Lee was a key factor in the Trinity women’s golf team’s winning its first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship since 1995. Lee earned a third-place finish in the two-round tournament. She was the 2013 individual winner of the conference championship, and was named SCAC Women’s Golf Player of the Year, and SCAC Freshman of the Year.

Holmes is a junior mathematics major with a 3.95 GPA. Holmes led Colorado College to a second place team finish at the SCAC Championship as well as second place in the 800 freestyle relay, third place in the 500 freestyle, and fifth in the 1650.

Culberson is a junior business administration major with a 3.52 grade point average.  Last March, Culberson captured the NCAA Division III men’s 100-yard freestyle national championship. He became Trinity’s first swimmer to win a national crown, and the sixth Tiger individual to take home a Division III Championship. Culberson also earned All-America honors in the 50-yard freestyle, and Honorable Mention All-America accolades with his teammates in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Roush is a senior Biochemistry major with a 3.99 GPA. Roush was a SCAC Character and Community selection earlier in March for his efforts outside the pool. Roush claimed a 12th place finish in the 200 IM at the SCAC Championships in 2014 as well as a eighth place finish in the 200 breast, a sixth place finish in the 400 IM, and a fifth place finish in the 400 yard medley relay.
