Trinity Leads Four SCAC Members Ranked in Winter Learfield Directors' Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Currently in 42nd place, Trinity University leads four SCAC institutions ranked in the prestigious 2018-2019 Division III Learfield Sports Directors' Cup winter standings. Complete Standings

Trinity has amassed 243.0 points in the standings on the strength of its four NCAA appearances in the fall and two appearances in the winter. The Tigers sent five student-athletes to the Swimming and Diving National Championships, led by the men’s program finishing 27th and the women’s team earning a tie for 47th.

Texas Lutheran University currently sits in 111th with 100.50 points after an outstanding winter that saw the Bulldogs send both it’s men’s and women’s basketball teams to the NCAA Tournament and finish in a tie for 33rd. Additionally, TLU closed out the winter championship season by finishing 36th on the men’s side of the Indoor Track & Field National Championships and 59th on the women’s side.  

Colorado College has 50 points and is in 181st place, while Southwestern University is in 236th place with 25 points. Both institutions earned their points in the fall.

Johns Hopkins leads all of Division III at the completion of the winter championships season with 804.25 points and has a 60.25-point lead over second-place Williams (744.00). Washington-St. Louis is in third with 696.75 points, followed by Middlebury (594.75) and Chicago (580.00) to round out the top five.

The Learfield IMG College Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.

To date, all 10 winter NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women's basketball – Thomas More; men's basketball – Wisconsin-Oshkosh; Women's Ice Hockey – Plattsburgh State; Men's Ice Hockey – Wisconsin-Stevens Point; Women's Swimming & Diving - Emory; Men's Swimming & Diving - Denison; Men's Indoor Track & Field -  North Central; Women's Indoor Track & Field - Williams; Men's Wrestling - Augsburg.
