Trinity Leads SCAC Schools In Learfield Standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Trinity University sits in 24th place to lead all Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference member institutions in the 2018-19 Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup final fall standings. Complete Standings

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships. 

The Trinity Tigers have totaled 170.00 points in the overall standings, based on NCAA postseason competition, led by the men’s soccer team racking up 64.00 points after topping Chapman and Mary Hardin-Baylor, 3-0, in the first and second round of the NCAA Tournament, before bowing out of the tourney with a 2-0 loss at Chicago. The TU Tiger’s women’s soccer team earned 50.00 points after opening the national tournament with a 1-0 victory over Occidental but were ultimately eliminated in the second round with a 3-0 loss at Hardin-Simmons. Trinity rounded out the fall season with 31.00 points from its women’s cross country team that turned in a top-five performance at the NCAA Cross Country South/Southeast Regional and 25.00 points from it volleyball squad that dropped a 3-0 decision Aurora in the opening round of the national tournament.

Colorado College finished part of a 23-way tie for 101st with 50.00 points after its volleyball team defeated Washington & Lee, 3-2, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to the eventual national champion Emory Eagles in the second round, 3-0.

Rounding out the SCAC teams in the fall standings was Southwestern with 25.00 for to finish in a 60-way tie for 132nd. The Pirates dropped a 2-0 decision versus Mary Hardin-Baylor in the opening round of the men’s soccer tournament.

Johns Hopkins has the lead in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Div. III fall standings with 475.00 points, while Tufts sits in second (353.50) and Middlebury is third overall with 345.50 points.

To date, seven fall NCAA Div. III championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s cross country – Washington (Mo.); men’s cross country – North Central (IL); field hockey – Middlebury; women's volleyball – Emory; women’s soccer – Williams; men’s soccer – Tufts; football – Mount Union.
