Women's Basketball Secures First Win of the Season

Women's Basketball picked up their first win of the season as they defeated the University of Dallas Crusaders, 78-60. The backcourt duo of Zariah McInnis and Micayla Hamilton both recorded 22 points in tonight's convincing victory. Hamilton also tallied five steals and four blocks to compliment her offensive outpoor.

A strong second quarter defensively allowed the Celts to build a three point lead heading into halftime. After allowing a 21 point outburst in the first quarter, UST upped the defensive intensity and held the Crusaders to a ten point second quarter. Micayla Hamilton led the way with 9 points and 2 rebounds, while Emily Edwards provided a spark off the bench hitting two 3's and adding 3 rebounds and an assist.

The second half mirrored the first as the Celts allowed the Crusaders to get going early in the third quarter. UST held onto a one point lead heading into the final period of play. After twelve minutes of back and forth play, the Celts stepped on the gas pedal as they finished the second half on a 24-6 run to cap off an 18 point victory over the Crusaders. The run was fueled by strong team defense as they combined for seven steals and three blocks in the final 20 minutes of play. UST's bench came up big tonight as they outscored UDallas' bench 22-7. Jade Evans worked the glass tonight as she led all rebounders with 13 boards.

The Celts will return to the hardwood tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM for their second game against UDallas.
