Bulldogs complete weekend sweep of Austin College

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs completed a weekend two-game sweep of the Austin College Kangaroos with a 59-49.
 
TLU improved to 5-3 overall and to 5-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
 
Saturday's 59-49 win for TLU followed Friday's 70-64 win in overtime.
 
Austin College fell to 5-4 overall and to 5-4 in the SCAC.
 
TLU took a four-point lead into the fourth quarter and out-scored the Kangaroos 16-10 in the final period.
 
Morgan Rodriguez and Taynse Moehrig each scored 15 for the Bulldogs. Rodriguez went 5-for-9 from the field and 5-for-7 at the line.
 
Moehrig was 5-for-12 from the floor and 5-for-7 at the line.
 
Rodriguez and Moehrig combined for 15 rebounds. Rodriguez pulled down eight, and Moehrig added seven.
 
The Bulldogs again played with only eight healthy players and had three players play more than 31 minutes.
 
Jenesis Navarro registered 10 points, six rebounds and four assists, and Jayla Santa Maria scored six and had seven rebounds and three steals.

TLU held Austin to 30.9 percent shooting, and the Bulldogs out-rebounded the Kangaroos by 10, 45-35.
 
TLU now heads to the SCAC Tournament, which will have a new format for this season.
 
The SCAC office today announced a format change for the men's and women's basketball tournament, which is scheduled to begin the weekend of March 5-7 on campus sites around the conference.

Normally conducted over one weekend among the top six teams at a single predetermined site, this year the top eight men's and women's teams will qualify for the postseason conference tournament which will stretch over three weekends.

First round play will be conducted the weekend of March 5-7, semifinals are scheduled for March 12-14 and the men's and women's championship will occur the weekend of March 19-21.
 
The top four seeds will host first round games on both the men's and women's side, and the top remaining seeds will host semifinal and championship rounds.
