Box Score Colorado College exploded for six goals during the first period and hung on for an 11-8 victory at Guilford College on Sunday afternoon.

Junior midfielder Jack Kreitler paced the Tigers' attack with three goals, including a pair during the opening frame. His second tally put CC ahead 4-0 with 2:35 remaining in the first quarter, then sophomore midfielder Henri Halle and junior attackman Tyler Allen struck during the final two minutes to give Colorado College what appeared to be in insurmountable six-point lead.

Duncan Fitzgerald put the Quakers on the board with 6:41 remaining in the second period and the teams traded man-up goals to give the Tigers a 7-2 advantage after 30 minutes.

After sophomore midfielder Nick Ahrens scored CC's eighth marker 1:09 into the third quarter, Guilford answered with four consecutive goals to pull to within 8-6 with 15 minutes to play.

Sophomore midfielder Gray Ritger reversed the momentum with what proved to be the game-winning score early in the fourth quarter. After Daniel Hughey struck for the second time with 9:12 remaining, Kreitler and freshman attacker Chris Lee gave the Tigers an 11-7 lead with 3:15 to play.

Guilford's Adam Fiore added a final goal with 2:08 to play, but that was as close as the Quakers would get. Fiore had three points, with two goals and an assist, while Juquan Tellis scored once and collected an assist.

Freshman goaltender Chase Murphy made seven saves for CC.

Sophomore midfielder Sayre Thomas won 16 of 20 face-offs and grabbed a game-high 11 ground balls. Junior midfielder PJ Higgins and Ritger each caused a pair of turnovers.

Senior midfielder Charles Curtis scored once and had three assists, while Halle recorded a pair of assists in addition to his goal.

Jacob Broome made eight saves for the Quakers (0-1). Nick Huckins grabbed a team-high five ground balls and recorded a game-high three caused turnovers.

Colorado College (2-0) is idle until March 2 when it drives to Grand Junction, Colo., to play Colorado Mesa University.
