FEISTY PIRATES REBOUND TO DEFEAT UT DALLAS 1-0

RICHARDSON, Texas - Coming off their first loss of the season the Pirate women's soccer team had to quickly refocus to face a talented UT Dallas squad on Sunday afternoon and did just that, defeating the Comets 1-0. Southwestern now sits at 3-1 on the season.

The Pirates started off strong in the first half, quickly getting great looks at the goal with well-placed crossing balls and corner kicks, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities. Southwestern took three shots and had four corners in the half and it wasn't until just before halftime, in the 42nd minute, that SU took advantage of a corner opportunity and took the lead. First-year Lindsay Jakszta lofted the ball into the box and Jillian Curran blasted a shot into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

As the second half commenced Southwestern continued to press hard until halfway through and changed their mind frame, focusing on defending their goal to secure the win. The Pirates looked impressive down the home stretch as their excellent fitness level allowed them win 50/50 balls and hold the desperate Comets at bay.

SU looks to continue their winning ways as they take on another regional opponent in UC Santa Cruz on Sunday, September 19th at home beginning at noon.
