SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team built a 2-0 lead but needed a late goal from Ivan Barrios to top McMurry University 3-2 on Tuesday, giving the 'Roos their first victory of the season and improving to 1-6.

In a match that was evenly played throughout most of its 90 minutes, the 'Roos took advantage of their scoring opportunities first with Louis Catchpole tallying on a feed from Mickey Maloney in the 20th minute of action. The score remained 1-0 heading into the break, with the 'Roos holding a 7-6 shot advantage, though McMurry won four corner kicks compared to just one for Austin College in the opening half.

Austin College doubled its lead early in the second half, as Jacob Tekle finished a header off of a free kick from Pablo Macias at the 48:02 mark to make it 2-0, but McMurry got a goal from Griffin Gayler just two minutes later to cut the margin in half. Kevin Serrano tallied eight minutes later to square things up at two goals apiece in the 59th minute, but Austin College wasted little time surging back ahead on a goal from Ivan Barrios in the 66th minute. The tally from Barrios, assisted by Xander Spurlock and Maloney, would prove to be the game winner despite a late near-goal from McMurry in the closing minutes as an attempt from Andres Martinez was saved by Connor Tullis in the 89th minute at point blank range.

Tullis finished with five saves for the 'Roos, who finished the match with an 18-13 edge in shot attempts.
