CONSTANT PRESSURE LEADS TO PIRATES WIN OVER TEXAS LUTHERAN

A barrage of shots and consistent pressure gave Southwestern University a 3-0 victory over Texas Lutheran to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Pirates started applying the pressure early, peppering the goal with shots and maintaining possession on the attacking half of the field. They were the first on the scoreboard in the 13th minute with a beautifully placed ball by senior defender Andi Miller (pictured) that lofted over TLU's keeper's head from the left side, 35 yards out.

The Pirates narrowly missed out on their second goal as senior forward A.J. Andreola found junior midfielder Danielle Madison open in the box. Madison placed the ball to the left of the keeper who made a diving save to keep the Pirates ahead by only one.  A close offside call when Jillian Curran shot a ball deflected by TLU's keeper on a shot by Andreola kept the score 1-0 going into the half. Southwestern took 15 shots, 9 on goal, in the first half alone while allowing just two shots.

At the start of the second half the Pirates took off where they left off and scored two minutes into the period after Amy Douglas was tackled in the box and put the penalty kick in the lower right corner to put SU up 2-0.

Andreola gave SU their final goal when she one touched Madison's pass in the box into the bottom left corner to give the Pirates the 3-0 victory.

Southwestern dominated the contest taking 24 more shots (29-5) and 18 more corners (20-2) than the Bulldogs. They will next face the University of Texas - Dallas at home on Friday at 1:00 pm.
