Colorado College started its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule in fine fashion on Tuesday night, cruising to a 91-58 victory over Johnson & Wales University at Reid Arena.
Five players registered double-digit points as the Tigers scored a season high points, the most for the program since a 93-82 victory over Hendrix College on Dec. 6, 2009.
Freshman guard
Izzy Strigel connected on seven of 12 field-goal attempts, including three of four shots from behind the arc, and led CC with season-best 17 points.
Senior guard
Casey Torbet scored 14 points and dished out six assists for Colorado College, which improved to 4-3 overall.
Sophomore guard
Jade Odom grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds, scored eight points and matched her season high of six assists.
Junior forward
Nia Duplain scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
Freshman
Clair Jones hit all three of her long-range shots and a pair of free throws to finish with 11 points.
The Tigers shot a fraction better than 57 percent from the floor while racing to a 31-5 lead during the first 10 minutes.
CC took its largest lead at 56-17 when sophomore winger
McKenzee Gertz scored on a layup 1:02 into the third quarter for two of 13 points.
As a team, the Tigers were 10-for-13 from three-point range, while JWU made just six of 31 long-range shots.
Katey Guzman led the Wildcats with 22 points and nine rebounds.
Brianna Bailey added 14 points for JWU, which dropped to 0-6.
The teams will meet for the second time on Feb. 16 in the final game of the regular season.
Colorado College travels to the Pacific Northwest this week to face Whitman College and Whitworth University on Friday and Saturday, respectively, in Walla Walla, Wash.
