Pirate Win Streak Snapped by First-Place Tigers

Pirate Win Streak Snapped by First-Place Tigers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Southwestern men's lacrosse played in their first road game of the season, taking on Colorado College in a rematch of last year's SCAC Conference Tournament semi-final. The Pirates proved they were a much improved team over last season as they were nearly even in turnovers and faceoffs, but eventually fell 14-2.

Southwestern jumped on the board first. Daniel Ayala scored his first goal of the season in transition from the defensive line for the Pirates to put SU up 1-0 four minutes into the contest. The lead was short-lived, however, as Colorado's Hunter Sprole scored the equalizer 16 seconds later. The goal sparked a run for the Tigers as they scored 11 unanswered goals to lead by ten, 11-1, at halftime.

The Pirate defense kicked things up a notch and held a high-powered Tiger offense to just three second half goals. Jamie Long, assisted by Michael Villa, took advantage of a man-up opportunity with eight minutes remaining for Southwestern's second goal of the game.

Colorado College recorded 19 more shots than the Pirates and were +5 in ground balls. SU committed two more turnovers, 9-7, and won just two fewer faceoffs.

Chris Q'Quain (pictured) garnered the loss but had nine saves on the evening. Colorado College's Sprole and Henri Halle led all scorers with three goals each.

The loss snaps a three-game win streak for the Pirates and drops them to 3-9 on the season and 3-2 in the SCAC. They remain on the road for a crucial game against Hendrix College on Sunday.
