Tigers Fall to Texas Lutheran In Overtime

Box Score Justin Berardino forced overtime when he scored two of his 18 points with 6.5 seconds remaining in regulation, but Texas Lutheran University made the big plays during the extra session and escaped Reid Arena with a 61-58 victory over Colorado College on Sunday afternoon.

Sixteen seconds after Russell Clark gave the Tigers a 54-50 lead, Jordan Kouremetis connected on the first of two long-range three-pointers. Nearly a minute later, just after Berardino put the Tigers up 56-54, TLU's sophomore guard struck again to give his team a lead they would not give up.

Clark's layup with 29 seconds to play cut Colorado College's deficit to one with 29 seconds to go, but Kouremetis made two free throws and the Tigers were unable to get an open three-point attempt to tie the game and the clock ran out.

Berardino tied the game at 50-50 with 6.5 second to play when he hit a floater in the lane that kissed the glass. TLU's Sterling Holmes missed a shot from under the backboard while trying to draw a foul as time expired.

Donte McGee tied the game at 48-48 with 2:32 remaining in regulation, and after Clark was bodied out of bounds under the basket, the senior forward gave the Bulldogs a two point lead with 1:46 to go in regulation.

Berardino led the Tigers with 18 points, while Clark finished with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Junior guard Luke Winfield added 12 points and five boards for CC, which slipped to 13-12 overall and 7-7 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association.

Kouremetis finished with a team-high 18 points for Texas Lutheran.

McGee posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs, who improved to 15-9 overall and 10-3 in league play.

Colorado College has nearly two weeks off before it returns to action on Feb. 27 for the first round of the SCAC postseason tournament at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas.
