Celts force 1-1 draw at Our Lady of the Lake

SAN ANTONIO – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas forced a 1-1 draw Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lake.

Senior striker Kennedy Sessions (SR/Spring, Texas) pulled the Celts level early in the first half when she found the back of the net in the 17th minute. Our Lady of the Lake had taken the lead less than a minute earlier.

Sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Futch (SO/Katy, Texas) set a school record by making 21 saves for the Celts. The Katy, Texas, native and transfer from UTSA stopped seven shots during the two overtime periods. The previous mark for saves in a match was 12.

The Celts improved their record to 0-2-1 with the draw.

Our Lady of the Lake, a longtime Red River Athletic Conference rival of St. Thomas, outshot UST 28-6.

The Celts return to action Sunday when they host Houston–Victoria as part of a women's-and-men's doubleheader between the two schools. The Celt women open the doubleheader with a 5 p.m. kickoff.
