Men's Tennis Rolls With Heavy Competition at Stag-Hen Invite

CLAREMONT, CA (March 11, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's tennis team showed it can hang with top-flight opponents as it played some very competitive matches in a 9-0 loss to No. 4 Emory University and 7-2 loss to No. 9 Trinity University in the first day of the Stag-Hen Invitational on Friday.

The Brewers (6-5) complete their Spring Break trip against on Saturday, March 12, in the second day of the Stag-Hen Invitational.

Against Trinity at No. 1 singles, junior Ben Guzick topped the No. 17 ranked Max Frey as Frey pulled out at 6-72, 4-3. Sophomore Dan Freeman took down Erick DelaFuente as DelaFuente retired at 6-4, 2-3. Senior Max Willner nearly upstaged the No. 8 ranked Bobby Cocougher 6-74, 6-4, but was just shy in the super tiebreaker 14-12.

Against Emory, senior captain Joshua Jasso took Nick Sczcurek to three sets at No. 4 singles, taking the first set 6-2 but dropped the next sets 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Josh Kessler challenged Simon Lavoie-Perusse but eventually fell in a super-breaker 4-6, 6-2, (10-4).
