ABILENE, Texas - McMurry University swimming dropped a tri-meet to the University of Texas-Permian Basin and Wayland Baptist University at the Phillips Family Center. In the War Hawks' final home meet of the season, McM's women lost to UTPB 136-52 and to WBU 125-63, while the men fell to the Falcons 151.5-49.5 and to the Pioneers 109-74.
The meet gave the young McMurry team – it has no seniors on either squad – as it enters the second half of the season. UTPB is an NCAA Division II program, while Wayland Baptist's teams are both ranked in the NAIA (women fourth and men fifth).
Sophomore
Jerick Pena was the big winner for the McM men, earning two individual event wins in the 100-yard butterfly (54.66 seconds) and 200 individual medley (2:02.05). Pena was also second in the 100 backstroke (56.26) . He also swam the lead leg on McM's 200 medley relay (1:45.73).
Junior
Robyn Remschel brought in a first in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.42 seconds. Remschel was fifth in the 500 freestyle (26.67), followed by teammate
Zandria Rodriguez (27.55) in sixth.
Rodriguez was also third in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.38) and sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:08.00).
Remschel and Rodriguez – along with
Kaylee Cook and
Kelsey Hill – made up McM's 200-yard Medley Relay quartet. The group was second in a clocking of 2:01.66 minutes.
