JACKSON, Miss. - Millsaps College used a strong first half to down LaGrange College 70-51 at the Hanger Dome on Monday. The Panthers remained winless on the season, dropping to 0-10. Millsaps improved to 4-3.
Senior Nic Whitfield led the Panthers with a double-double of 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. The double-double was the second of the season for Whitfield. Marcus Vaughn added 15 points and nine rebounds.
The Majors were led by Nick Cortese's game-high 19 points. Taylor Meades had 18 points off the bench, including a game-best three 3-pointers.
Millsaps never trailed in the game. The Majors led 21-8 midway through the first half. The Panthers closed within eight on three occasions, the last with 4:56 remaining after a 3-pointer from Britt Gaylor to make it 26-18.
The Majors closed the half with a 14-2 run to lead 40-20 at halftime. Meades made a pair of 3-pointers and a layup to spark the run.
The Panthers played the Majors on even terms in the second half. The Panthers never got closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
The Panthers host Emory on Thursday at 5 p.m.
