'Roo Women Fall in Regular Season Finale

SEGUIN, Texas - The Austin College women's basketball team dropped a 59-49 decision at Texas Lutheran in the team's regular season finale on Saturday, bringing the 'Roos to 5-4 overall on the year and locking them into the No. 5-seed for the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

The 'Roos fell behind 14-11 after the first quarter and were never able to make up enough ground to overtake the Bulldogs, as Austin College shot just 30.9% from the field and knocked down only 7-of-26 attempts from beyond the arc. Texas Lutheran owned a 45-to-35 advantage on the glass, including limiting the 'Roos to just five offensive boards, and the Bulldogs also outscored Austin College 21-to-8 from the free throw line in the game.

Kacie West scored 13 to pace Austin College, and Reagan Chiaverini was the only other 'Roo to reach double figures with 10 points. Ally Longaker pulled down a career-best 15 rebounds and chipped in eight points in the loss. The 'Roos made a season-low 17 field goals as a team, marking the first time since December 2019 that the program has made fewer than 20 field goals in a game and the fewest makes since November 2017.

Austin College will be looking to bounce back in the opening round of the SCAC Tournament, traveling to Schreiner for a 3:00 p.m. game on March 6.
