Ladies Basketball Falls to Schreiner in SCAC Road Contest on Friday

Kerrville, Texas – The Centenary women's basketball dropped its first road contest of the season on Friday afternoon in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play to the Schreiner Mountaineers, 84-40, at the Stephens Family Arena.

The Ladies (0-3) were coming off a pair of losses to Texas Lutheran at home last weekend. The teams will play again on Saturday at 1 p.m. Schreiner improved to 3-0 on the season after sweeping Southwestern last weekend. Sophomore forward Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) led the Ladies in scoring on Friday with 10 points in just 15 minutes of action as she made 5 of 7 shots from the field with five rebounds. Jones scored 10 points for the second-straight game after doing so last Saturday versus TLU. She has now reached double digits in scoring six times in her young career.

Junior guard Kristen Stuart (Kilgore, Texas) had a productive game with six points and four rebounds and made all four of her free-throw attempts. Stuart has made an immediate impact just three games into her Centenary career as she scored 27 points in the two games last weekend against TLU. Junior guard Ani Uikilifi (San Bruno, Calif.), a transfer from Skyline College, made her Centenary debut on Friday and had five points, five rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

Freshman guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) was held to just four points and four rebounds in 28 minutes. Tremie posted 18 points in her debut with the Ladies on Saturday after not playing last Friday in the season opener. Senior guard Darelzray Bellard (Mamou, La.) added six points and two rebounds in eight minutes of action, and fellow senior Tacoya Allen (Killeen, Texas) had three points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Schreiner had four players in double digits led by Sydney Williams' 15. She added a game-high 17 rebounds in 23 minutes and had two assists and two steals. The Mountaineers shot 43. 8% for the game while the Ladies shot 23.9 %. Schreiner led 24-12 after the first quarter of play and extended the lead to 50-18 at the half.

The Ladies stay on the road next weekend as they travel to Dallas to face the Crusaders on Jan. 29 (5 p.m.) and Jan. 30 (1 p.m.). Centenary then returns home to face Colorado College on Feb. 5 and 6 at 5 p.m. and Noon respectively. Live video and live stats are available at all home games.
