Brady Ohlsen had 16 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to lead Colorado College to a 71-56 victory over Southwestern University on Saturday night at CC's Reid Gymnasium.
It was the first-ever victory for the Tigers in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game. CC improved to 1-1 in the conference and 2-8 overall. Colorado College is 2-1 against Division III competition. Southwestern slipped to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the SCAC.
The Pirates took a 23-11 lead on a Jonathan Brown layup with 8:52 remaining in the first half, but from that point on it was almost all Tigers.
Colorado College used a 19-6 run to take the lead on a three-pointer by
Jarrell Sweet with 1:08 to play in the opening period and the Tigers led 32-31 at the break.
Southwestern trailed by five points after another basket by Brown with 12:49 to play in the first half, but CC went on a 20-7 run to build a 62-47 lead with seven minutes to go and the Pirates were never able to get closer than 11 points.
Nick Caputo led SWU with 10 points while Brown had a team-high seven rebounds.
Colorado College will be idle until Jan 3 when the Tigers resume SCAC play at Austin College.
