ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University swimming was defeated by Austin College in both the women's and men's competition at the Phillips Family Center. The War Hawks lost to the Kangaroos' women's team, 128-86, and the men fell by a 145-48 margin.
Junior
Robyn Remschel was a double-individual winner for McM's women. Remschel won the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 26.11 seconds, with teammate
Kelsey Hill second at 28.40. Remschel also won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:00 34.
Hill also took first in the 100 freestyle (1:02.84).
Zandria Rodriguez won the 100 breaststroke (1:1`6.61) and finished second in the 100 butterfly (1:09.54).
Monica Flores took the top spot in the 200 individual medley (2:30.60).
The quartet of Remschel, Rodriguez, Flores and Hill won the 200 freestyle relay (2:01.92).
Junior
Katie Gorka was the War Hawks' other event winner. Gorka, swimming in the grueling 1000-yard freestyle, posted a time of 12:29.45 minutes.
Newcomer
Kaylee Cook earned a second in the 200 freestyle (2:17.70). Linah Howey was third in the 100 free (1:10.23).
In the men's race, sophomore
Jerick Pena was McM's lone event winner. Pena won the 100 butterfly in a clocking of 55.95 seconds, with teammate
Andrew Jarrett third (59.85). Pena was also second in the 200 individual medley (2:04.38), after being out-touched at the end.
Jarrett was the runner-up in the 200 free (1:57.04), as well. In the 100 freestyle, War Hawks went 2-3 with Austin Gambos (53.68) and Dani Baki (58.87).
Newcomer Zakia Love earned a second place in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:06.51.
