Junior
Tony Calderon posted a sixth-place finish among collegiate runners and led the Colorado College men's cross country team to fourth place Saturday morning at the season opening Rust Buster meet, hosted by UCCS at North Monument Valley Park.

Calderon, who finished eighth at last year's meet, covered the 8K course in 26 minutes, 25.5 seconds, a full minute faster than his 2017 time at the same meet.

"We were excited to see Tony run that well today," Colorado College head coach
Ted Castaneda said. "He is where we thought he would be and will certainly be a potential qualifier for the Division III national meet."

"It was nice to see a couple of freshmen in our top seven," Castaneda said. "Today's results were encouraging, but we still have a long way to go."

UCCS won the meet with 38 points, followed by Metro State (42), Colorado Christian (61) and Colorado College (117).

The Tigers host the Colorado College Invitational next Saturday, Sept. 8, at North Monument Valley Park, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
