Wittenberg Women Remain Strong on Defense, Unrelenting on Offense to Beat DePauw

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Tiger defense is starting to behave like a broken record. For the third straight game, the women in Red & White shut out their opponents, sending the team to a 3-1-0 record early in the 2007 season.

The Witt defense was stronger than ever on Saturday against the DePauw Tigers, holding the team to an amazing one shot, and even that shot was not on target, giving DePauw a zero in the shots on goal column.

Sophomores Sara Pirozzi (Akron, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Emily Murray (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey) scored their first goals on the season, adding to a Sydney Bates (Loveland, Ohio/Milford) goal which counted as her second on the season.

Overall, the Tigers' offense was just as potent as its defense, rattling off an impressive nine shots on goal out of 12 total shots. Wittenberg's goals all came in the second period. Junior goalkeeper Jordan Bamberger (Solon, Ohio/Solon) saw her first minutes of the 2007 season late in the game in relief of senior Meghan O'Rourke (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne). The pair earned a shared shutout as a result.
