SAN ANTONIO – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas faced a tough task Friday, as they visited No. 25-ranked Trinity. The host Tigers claimed a 3-0 win over UST.
Trinity, ranked in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III poll, scored twice in the first half and then added an insurance goal in the 90th minute.
The loss ended St. Thomas' four-match winning streak. The Celts (4-4-1) fell to 1-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Trinity (8-2) improved its conference record to 3-0.
The host Tigers outshot St. Thomas 26-1, and held 15-1 advantage in shots on goal. Aeriana Lewis (SO/Houston, Texas) fired a shot on goal from near the top of the penalty area in the 46th minute for the Celts.
Olivia Futch (SO/Katy, Texas) made 11 saves for the Celts in goal.
The Celts return to action Sunday when they visit Kerrville for a match at Schreiner. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
