Box Score Senior midfielder Jack Kreitler scored three goals during the first quarter as Colorado College raced to a 6-0 lead after 15 minutes and then cruised to a 14-5 victory on Sunday at Washburn Field.

"We challenged our starters to get some separation early," head coach Sean Woods said. "We wanted this to be a day where everyone could get on the field and Jack took it upon himself to get us off to a good start with three early goals."

After Kreitler scored just 47 seconds into the contest, freshman attackman Jack McCormick set up tallies by Taylor Paul and Dylan Davie just 56 seconds apart to give the Tigers a 3-0 advantage with 9:02 to play in the first quarter.

Back-to-back goals by Kreitler extended CC's lead to five with 2:28 to play, then Gray Ritger struck again with less than a second remaining in the quarter.

Paul's second tally 4:21 into the second frame gave Colorado College a 7-0 lead.
  
The Pirates finally broke through when Matthew Montagne scored with 4:51 remaining in the second quarter, but John Grube got that one back 43 seconds later. Austin Davie added one more to give the Tigers a 9-1 cushion after 30 minutes.

With CC substituting freely in the second half, the teams alternated six goals during the third quarter. Stephen Petersilge gave the Tigers a 10-1 lead when he found the net 6:29 into the period, and Michael Idell came off the bench to score twice.

After Southwestern's Jackson Timian and Tyler Downing trimmed their teams' deficit to 12-5 early in the fourth quarter, Sayre Thomas and Robert Prior added the game's final tallies for Colorado College.

Goaltender Chase Murphy made six saves for the Tigers before giving way to Zach Steedman with 4:51 remaining in the second quarter. Steedman and Ryan Goodall, who played the final 15 minutes, steered aside three shots apiece. 

"I wanted to get some seniors like Zach Steedman and Michael Idell into the game," Woods said. "They've really earned their playing time over the years.

"We've played five games in 10 days, so I also wanted to get some of our guys out of the game to keep them healthy. More importantly, I wanted to get some of the guys who have been working hard in practice onto the field for some much-deserved playing time."

CC's Chandler Jacobson caused three turnovers and grabbed a ground ball, while Forrest Corccoran recorded a pair of caused turnovers and scooped up three ground balls.

The Tigers launched 47 shots, compared to 25 for SU. Colorado College also won 16 of 23 faceoffs and won the battle for ground balls, 33-27.

"It feels good coming out of our spring break with three solid victories, two of which were real grinders that we had to earn," Woods said. "Today we took care of business early and that allowed everyone to contribute. Everyone who is healthy got to play, which is rare."

Colorado College is idle until Wednesday, April 2, what Adams State University visits Washburn Field for the first the first of two night games on the 2014 schedule.
