Colorado College Rallies for First Victory Over Trinity Since 2012

Box Score Sophomore forward Rosie Braley scored on a layup with three seconds remaining to give the Colorado College women's basketball team a 57-55 victory at Trinity University in CC's season opener on Friday night.

Colorado College trailed 52-44 with a little less than nine minutes remaining in the game, but held Trinity to just three points the rest of way.

A layup by senior guard McKenzee Gertz pulled CC to within a point with 1:42 to play, and sophomore forward Talia Cloud tied the score on the first of two free throws 20 seconds left.

Cloud missed the second attempt, but Gertz grabbed her game-high 14th rebound to give the Colorado College a shot at the program's first victory over TU since an 82-78 win on Feb. 12, 2012.

"We were incredibly proud of our team's effort tonight," head coach Katherine Menendez said. "Every player on our roster believed this result was possible and did the little things to make it happen.

"Rebounding was key as was our determination to handle their defensive pressure. The opportunity to compete this year is not one that we take for granted and starting the season on a high note such as this is truly special."

Braley led CC with 14 points and completed her third career double-double with 10 boards.

Cloud finished with 12 points, while sophomore guard Anna Fanelli recorded a double-double with 10 points and rebounds.

Colorado College started fast, racing to a 16-8 lead after 10 minutes, but Trinity answered with a strong second quarter and took a 30-28 lead into halftime.

Trinity offset that deficit by going 10-for-32 from behind the arc.
