Tigers defeat Austin College in home finale

The Tigers saved their best for last.

Playing its final home game of the season, Colorado College built a 15-point lead and hit the clutch shots in the closing seconds to defeat Austin College, 72-67, on Saturday afternoon at Reid Gymnasium.

The Tigers improved to 5-18 overall and 4-9 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and kept their hopes alive for a berth in the upcoming conference tournament. The Kangaroos dropped to 13-10 overall and 6-7 in the SCAC.

Colorado College took control in the second half, using a 19-6 run to build a 59-44 lead with 8:34 remaining. Austin cut its deficit to 69-67 when Arron Mewbourm buried a long-range three-point shot with 34 seconds to play, but that was as close as the 'Roos would get.

Brady Ohlsen's free throw gave CC a three-point lead with 29 seconds remaining and Austin Perkins sealed the victory with a pair of free throws after he pulled down the rebound of a Nick Wade shot with 14 seconds to go.

Ohlsen made seven of nine shots from the floor and led the Tigers with 15 points. Nick Rose had 13 points, while Jarrell Sweet added 10. Everyone on the CC roster scored and had at least one rebound.

Saunders led the Kangaroos with a game-high 17 points, while Kola Alade had 13.

Spencer Burk had 12 rebounds as Austin built a 44-27 advantage in rebounds. The Tigers nullified the deficit by forcing 15 turnovers.

Colorado College will play its final two games of the season on the road next weekend when the Tigers travel to Texas for conference games at Trinity University and Southwestern University on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
