ABILENE, Texas - The McMurry University swimming teams both lost to NCAA Division II foe University of Texas-Permian Basin at the Phillips Family Center. The War Hawks women's team fell, 123-73, while the men lost to the Falcons, 155-38.
Senior Robyn Remschel won twice for the McM ladies. Remschel had a season-best time of 25.79, to win the 50-yard freestyle by better than one full second. In the 100 backstroke, Remschel had a clocking of 1:00.69, topping the field by six seconds.
Fellow senior Katie Gorka won the longest race of the day – the 1000-yard freestyle – in a time of 12:16.40 for the marathon race. Kaylee Cook was McM's other event winner, taking top honors in the 100 freestyle (1:00.31), with War Hawks' newcomer Mariah Rhoades third (1:01.27).
Senior Zandria Rodriguez picked up a pair of second place awards in the 100 butterfly (1:08.01) and 100 breaststroke (1:17.87). Jessica Gryder was also second in the 200 freestyle, touching at 2:16.63. Cook was third behind Rodriguez in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.96).
Junior Jerick Pena picked up the lone event victory for McMurry's men. Pena won the 100 backstroke in a finishing time of 55.22 seconds. Pena also earned a second place in the 200 individual medley (2:05.07).
Austin Gombas was third place in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 53.29 seconds.
