Celts Hand Austin College First Loss of Season

Celts Hand Austin College First Loss of Season

The Celts first home win of the season would turn out to be an exciting one, as they took down Austin College in a closely contested game. UST capitalized on a hot shooting performance from Hayden Morin, rallying from what was an early 14-point deficit.

The league favorite Austin College Kangaroos' hot start allowed them to take a 24-12 lead at the end of the first period. However, the Celts rallied themselves to begin the second period with a quick 11-0 run to cut into the 12-point first quarter deficit. Following the run, the Celts continued to chip away at the lead and would eventually take a 40-38 lead heading into the half, outscoring the Roos 28-14 in the second quarter. The Celts offense was led by Zariah McInnis and Ce'Briaya Bell, who each contributed 10 points in the half, with Bell doing her work off the bench.

The Roos started the third quarter with a quick 8-0 burst, but the Celts refused to let the lead balloon any further. The Celts quickly fought back to tie the game and take the lead. Hayden Morin was a key part of the Celts offense in the second half, hitting from distance three times in the third quarter alone, all of which were assisted by Zariah McInnis. Morin would then continue her hot streak of shooting to begin the fourth quarter, hitting back to back 3's to put the Celts up 11. They would go on to hold the lead for the rest of the period and win the game 81-73.

Hayden Morin led the charge for the Celts, pouring in all 21 of her points in the second half alone. UST would also get strong contributions from Zariah McInnis, Micayla Hamilton, and Ce'Briaya Bell who all finished the game in double figures. McInnis also dished out 7 assists.

The Celts will see Austin College again tomorrow at 1:00 PM for the second half of their back-to-back.
