Women's Basketball Falls in Overtime

Women's Basketball dropped a barn burner in overtime against Centenary College, 70-69

The energy the Celts finished the game with yesterday was zapped by the Ladies to start this contest. It was nearly halfway through the first quarter until they would see their first basket as a Jade Evans elbow-jumper would fall. Both teams would trade blows the entirety of the half, struggling to build a substantial lead. Eneily Rodriguez would generate a spark off the bench scoring seven points and grabbing four rebounds in the first. A last second jumper from Centenary gave them the 25-21 lead heading into the break.

The start of the second half mirrored that of the first. Initially, both teams struggled to score, but the Celts bench yet again came up big. A pair of buckets by freshman Emily Edwards propelled the Celts to overcome their halftime deficit and take a two-point lead heading into the final period. The big shots by Edwards continued as she knocked down back-to-back triples to extend UST's lead to six with five minutes left to play. However, the Ladies, hungry for their first win of the season, capitalized off missed free throws and sunk a layup as time expired to send the game to overtime.

The Celts and the Ladies battled in overtime, pushing the pace and quickly scoring backing and forth. With 10 ticks left in the period and UST trailing by two, a Celt three-pointer rimmed out. Centenary would ice the game with two free throws to earn their first victory of the year, 70-69

The Celts bench came up big today as Emily Edwards and Eneily Rodriguez led the team in scoring. Edwards had a career-high 17 points and Rodriguez followed with 13 points of her own.
