Defense Dominates as Tigers Blank Schreiner

Thanks in part to a dominating defensive effort, Colorado College cruised to a 3-0 victory at Schreiner University on a cool and cloudy Sunday afternoon at Mountaineer Field.
CC improved to 6-3-0 overall and 5-2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Tigers broke through in the 32nd minute when Skyler Stark-Ragsdale and Miles Montgomery clicked for the second game in a row.

Stark-Ragsdale, who now has a share of the team lead with three goals, received a cross from Montgomery and beat Schreiner goalkeeper Brandon Anselmi with a left-footed volley from six yards out.

Six different players now have scored game-winning goals for Colorado College this season.

CC doubled its lead late in the 87th minute when sophomore defender John Schuler pressured the Mountaineers back line and they put the ball in their own net.

Less than a minute later, senior midfielder Robert Malone capped the victory when he settled a pass from sophomore midfielder Jackson Silverstein and curled a shot into the lower left corner from the top of the box.

"It was nice to bounce-back game for the team," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We didn't start well, but we really poured it on in the second half and deserved our goals.

"The back line kept things nice and tight, and it was nice to see the attack created so many quality goal-scoring opportunities."

CC finished the game with a 20-2 advantage in total shots and a 10-0 margin in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Keller Mochel had to make just one save while recording his fifth clean sheet of the season.

Anselmi stopped seven shots in a little more than 87 minutes of action for the Mountaineers, who dropped to 2-5-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the conference.

Colorado College stays on the road next week for the last of its four consecutive road games. The Tigers visit Centenary for an SCAC match on Friday, Sept. 28, and then travels to East Texas Baptist University on Sunday for their final non-conference game of the regular season.
