Foul Trouble Costs Tigers In Overtime Loss

Box Score Colorado College held the University of Dallas to 38.5-percent from the floor, but there was no defending the Crusaders at the charity stripe.

UD made 41 of 50 free throws, including 10 of 14 in overtime, and escaped Reid Arena with a 92-86 victory on Sunday afternoon.

Despite losing three of its four leading scorers to fouls, the Tigers nearly pulled out the victory in regulation.

CC led 77-74 after freshman forward Francesca Cendali drained a 23-foot three-pointer as the shot clock expired with 1:19 to play, but Dallas answered with a basket by senior forward Brooke Hagemann and a pair of free throws from sophomore forward Seana Stoia to regain the lead with 30 seconds to go.

Junior forward Danielle Davis made one of two free throws with 15 seconds to play to force the extra session, and gave the Tigers their final lead after she made a layup 1:42 into overtime.

UD sealed the victory by making eight of 12 free throws during the final 3:02.

Senior guard Courtney Tyus recorded 25 points, 10 rebounds and five assists before fouling out with 3:42 to play. It was her third double-double of the season and sixth of her career. She also went over the 100 assist mark for the second year in row, finishing the contest with 101.

Tyus tied her career high with seven steals, which improved her career total to 201. She joined Melanie Auguste (2005-09), who holds the school record with 289, as the only players in program history to record 200 or more.

Freshman forward Michelle DeCoud was the one Crusader who was effective on the floor. She made 12 of 16 field-goal attempts and finished with a game-high 27 points. The rest of the team was a combined 13-for-49.

Hagemann made 16 of 18 free throws and finished with 24 points for UD, which improved to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Sophomore forward Korbyn Ukasick nearly had a double-double in the first half with 10 rebounds and nine points. She finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds en route to her third career double-double.

Junior guard Katie Wirth matched her season high of 12 points in the first half as Colorado College built a 46-34 lead after 20 minutes. She finished with 13.

The Tigers took a double-digit lead for the first time when sophomore guard Christina Bowman scored on a layup with 5:55 to play.

Dallas pulled to within 33-28 on a pair of free throws by Hagemann, but CC responded with an 11-3 surge to take their largest lead at 44-31 when junior guard Katie Waters sank a pair of free throws with 1:24 to play.

The Tigers raced to an early 9-2 lead during the opening 4:27. UD got as close as three points, the final time with 11:06 to go on a bucket by senior guard Marleyna Bustamante.

Colorado College, 2-15 overall and 2-4 in the league, returns to the road next week for games at Schreiner University and Trinity University on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
