WSWIM CC Classic Final Day

Women's Swimming & Diving Athletic Communications

Tigers Claim First Place to Close CC Classic

The Colorado College women's swimming and diving team completed the weekend of the 2024 CC Classic at the top of the team standings with 1,193 points after a stellar Sunday in the pool.

"Wow, this was a very high-energy meet all around," head coach Anne Goodman James said. "Because this meet is near the end of our hardest training phase, we often joke about it being the hardest lactate tolerance practice you can do. Five sessions in two and a half days really tests our limits."

CC finished the meet with 18 first place, 15 second and 16 third place finishes. Sunday consisted of five victories for the Tigers, including two relays and three individual events.

CC took gold in both the 200-freestyle relay and the 400-medley relay. In the 200 free, the team of Annie Bowens, Adeline Turner, Gina Lynch and Megan Simonson finished with a top time of 1:40.31. The 400-medley team consisted of Turner, Isabella Cole, Alyssa Tungga, and Lynch and finished in 4:05.58.

Alexis Lee gathered the first individual win of the evening in the 200-yard IM after touching in 2:13.18. Olvia Crisafulli finished fourth in the same event with a time of 2:25.05.

Lee followed it up with a first-place performance in the 200-yard backstroke after touching in 2:10.15. Sienna Schaay claimed second place with a time of 2:17.70.

The Tigers also took first and second in the 100-yard freestyle thanks to impressive performances from Gina Lynch and Turner. Lynch touched in 54.79 and Turner in 55.32.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Alyssa Tunggal was the victor after finishing in 2:14.51. It was the final individual victory for CC of the weekend.

In the 500-yard free, Emma Phillips earned second-place honors with a time of 5:31.24. Isabella Cole and Malia Hewitt came in second and third in the 100-yard breaststroke.

"I am so impressed with how much our team continuously stepped up to the challenges each day," Goodman James said. "We had great teams to compete against!"

CC will take a few weeks off before returning to action at the SCAC Championships in Garland, Texas, starting on Feb. 14.
