The Locker-Stabler Cup is coming back to Colorado Springs.

Colorado College broke Saturday's showdown open with six consecutive goals in the first quarter and put it away by scoring the last four as the Tigers closed out the regular season in Southern California with a 14-7 victory over Whittier College.

Not only did CC retain possession of the Cup, which is presented in honor of the former head coaches Doug Locker and Robert 'Doc' Stabler, the Tigers extended their winning streak against their West Region rival to four games for the first time in series history.

After the Poets closed to within 10-7 on a goal by freshman attackman Jonathan Kassity with 6:08 remaining in the third quarter, the CC defense rose to the occasion and kept the hosts off the scoreboard the rest of the game.

Sophomore midfielder Henri Halle returned the margin to four goals when he struck for his second extra-man tally with 1:53 to go in the frame.

Halle's fourth goal gave the Tigers a 12-7 lead with 5:06 to play in the fourth quarter, and then markers by junior attackman Tyler Allen and senior attackman Steve Rijo during the final 3:20 put the game away.

Rijo, who was named Offensive Player of the Year by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference,  paced the Colorado College attack with three goals and a pair of assists. Freshman midfielder Eric Neumeyer finished with three goals and an assist, while Allen also found the net three times.

The Poets won 17 of 25 face-offs and finished with a 25-17 advantage in ground balls, but the Tigers had a 38-36 edge in total shots.  

The difference in the game proved to be special teams. Colorado College scored on all three of its extra-man opportunities and denied Whittier on four of five man-down situations.

Freshman goaltender Chase Murphy made nine saves, two of which came while the Poets were playing with a man advantage.

Senior Jon Cairone stopped 10 shots the Poets, who dropped to 5-9.

Whittier took a 2-0 lead just 2:43 into the game on goals by freshman attackman Maxwell Jones and sophomore midfielder Tommy Andrews, but it didn't take long for the lead to evaporate.

Neumeyer ignited the Colorado College offense when he scored the first of his three first-half goals with 10 minutes remaining in the quarter.

Allen produced back-to-back goals in a span of 64 seconds to put the Tigers in front, and Halle gave CC a two-point advantage with 2:22 remaining.

Neumeyer struck again with 53 seconds to go in the first quarter, and Halle added a man-up marker with just 13 ticks on the clock to make the score 6-2 after 15 minutes.

The Poets trimmed their deficit to three goals four different times during the second and third quarters, but each time Colorado College answered with the next tally.

Rijo, Neumeyer and Davie found the net in the second quarter for the Tigers. Davie's man-up marker four seconds to play before halftime made the score 9-5, which was the final count in CC's victory last year.

Colorado College improved to 13-4 and will have to wait until Sunday night to see if it earned the program's second NCAA Tournament berth.
