CC rallies to edge Wildcats

Box Score Ian Rewoldt scored 17 points, including a key bucket with 2:53 to play, as Colorado College overcame a seven-point deficit early in the second half to record a 65-61 victory at Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday night.

Not only did Rewoldt's final basket prove to be the difference in the game, it made the senior forward the 48th player in program history to record 600 career points.

Junior point guard Ryan Milne, who sank three of four free throws during the final 19 seconds to seal the victory, finished with a game-high 18 points. He also tied his career high with eight rebounds and dished out four assists.

Milne passed Lance Jacobs (2005-09) for sole possession of 10th place on CC's all-time list when he drained his second 3-pointer of the night with 3:12 remaining in the first half. He went 5-for-14 from long range and finished the night with 141 treys in less than three full seasons.

Sophomore forward Chris Lesnansky scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to record his second double-double of the season and the fourth of his career.

After falling behind by seven points 5:08 into the second half, CC outscored the Wildcats 24-8 to take its biggest lead of the game when freshman forward James Lonergan connected on a short jumper with 6:09 to play.

JWU answered with an 8-0 run and pulled to within a point on a jumper by Cody Derner with 3:39 remaining, but Rewoldt's final basket gave the Tigers some much needed breathing room 46 seconds later. The Tigers used their superior height to grab four offensive rebounds and keep the ball in the offensive end during the final three minutes.

Colorado College finished with a 43-27 advantage on the glass, its largest margin of the season.

Johnson and Wales took its biggest lead at 18-9 after Taiyo Robertson drained a 3-pointer midway through the first half.

Freshman guard Justin Berardino dialed long distance twice during the final 1:18 to help CC knot the score at 30-30, only to see Derner knock down a jumper at the buzzer to give the Wildcats a two-point lead after 20 minutes.

JP Mile led Johnson & Wales with 15 points, while Cedric Ennis added 14.

The Tigers improved to 11-9 overall. JWU slipped to 4-21.

Colorado College returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this Saturday when the University of Dallas visits Reid Arena for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
