SAN ANTONIO – The 19th-ranked Trinity men's swimming & diving team finished strong at the final day of the Tiger Invitational, though the team wound up second behind the University of Texas-Permian Basin. The Tigers managed 987 points over the three-day event, including three individual wins and a relay victory on Sunday.
Michael Kohl (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point),
Matteo Lanzara (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo), and
John Key (El Paso, Texas / Franklin) all won individual events, while Kohl also was the leadoff swimmer for Trinity's winning 400 freestyle relay team.
Joining Kohl on the relay team that finished in 3:04.13 were
Caleb Manifold (Helotes, Texas / Homeschool),
William Walker (Houston, Texas / Westside), and
Nathaniel Early (Austin, Texas / Westwood). Kohl won the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:51.14, while Walker finished fourth in the event with a time of 1:55.67. Early finished as the runner-up in the 100 free in his time of 45.66 seconds, while Manifold was fourth with a time of 46.51 seconds.
Lanzara snagged a win in the 200 backstroke with his time of 1:50.54, but it was the 200 breaststroke that was the best event of the day for Trinity. The Tigers took the top three spots in the 200 breast, with Key winning the evening in 2:02.90.
Kendal Southwell (Rio Rancho, N.M. / Calvert Online Academy) was second with a time of 2:03.08, and
Brennan Jimenez (Fair Oaks, Calif. / Bella Vista) touched the pad in 2:05.54. Jimenez jumped up from a fifth-place finish in Sunday's prelims to take bronze in the finals.
Konstantine Partalas (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) had a pair of third-place finishes in diving, trailing only divers from UT-Permian Basin on both boards. He scored 473.30 points on the low board, and finished with 330.45 points in the 3-meter event.

"While we were down a few swimmers this weekend, the ones we had performed very well," said Head Coach
Cathleen Pruden. "We had returners matching and exceeding their swims from this meet last year, and all of our first-years posted at least one lifetime best time this weekend. With a successful weekend under our belt, we'll be ready to get back to work when we return from Thanksgiving."

Trinity will be off for Thanksgiving this week, then will continue training until heading to California in early January. The Tigers will face off against Occidental College on Friday, January 6, then will compete in a meet against both Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and California Lutheran University the next day. Trinity will not return home until January 14, when the Tigers will host Southwestern in another dual meet.
