Ladies Basketball falls to Colorado College on Friday

Shreveport– The Centenary women's basketball team fell by a score of 83-58 to the Colorado College Tigers on Friday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Gold Dome.

The Ladies trailed by just one, 31-30, at halftime after a very competitive first 20 minutes. The Tigers however outscored the Maroon and White, 28-16, in the third quarter to take a 13-point lead into the final period and then doubled up the Ladies by a 24-12 count to secure the 25-point conference victory.

Sophomore guard Blair Abshire (New Iberia, La.) banked in a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the first half horn, a play which was reviewed, to cut the Tigers' lead to one at the half. Colorado College proceeded to score the first eight points of the second half to increase their lead to 39-30 at the 7:26 mark. A three pointer by freshman guard Addy Tremie (Sulphur, La.) cut the Tigers' lead to 39-35 a minute later, but Colorado College then quickly scored the next five points to get back up by eight, at 43-35 with 6:04 remaining in the quarter.

The Ladies came out hot on offense, nailing four three-point baskets in the first quarter and made 7 of 16 shots overall (43.8 %). Senior Guard Darelzray Bellard (Mamou, La.) hit a pair of treys in the first quarter and finished 4-9 from behind the arc for a season-high 12 points in 20 minutes. Tremie matched her with 12 points to lead the Ladies in scoring on Friday as she reached double figures for the fourth-straight game and fifth time this season. Tremie entered Friday's game averaging 14.4 points per game (fifth in the SCAC) and 5.8 rebounds per game. She grabbed five rebounds, had three assists and a steal in 36 minutes and connected on 4 of her 10 three-point attempts.

Sophomore forward Jazzmyn Jones (Normangee, Texas) and senior guard Jennae Mayberry (Clovis, Calif.) each scored seven points and together contributed six rebounds. Mayberry added an assist and the two went a combined 4-6 from the free-throw line. Sophomore forward Amelia Bagwell (West Monroe, La.) had a team-high seven rebounds in 18 minutes and junior guard Alex Williams (Shreveport) had her best overall game of the season as she notched season-highs in points (nine) and rebounds (six). She added an assist and two blocks in 20 minutes and went 5-8 from the free-throw line.

The Ladies shot 31.1 % overall for the game while the Tigers shot 42.4 %. Colorado College was strong on the glass, outrebounding the Ladies, 53-34. Five Tigers reached double figures, led by Audrey Bayston's 21 on 9-14 shooting in 25 minutes. Anna Fanelli and McKenzee Gertz each scored 15, Rosie Braley scored 14, and Tedy Reed had 11. Fanelli recorded a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds and added three assists and a pair of steals in 37 minutes.

The Ladies are off next weekend and then back on the road Feb. 19-20 to face Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Centenary closes the regular season at home on Feb. 26-27 versus St. Thomas.
