Late Scoring Drought Proves Costly for Colorado College

Box Score A six-minute scoring drought proved costly as the Colorado College men's basketball team saw an opportunity to grab a coveted road victory slip away with a 65-56 setback at Trinity University on Saturday afternoon.

The game was tied at 55-55 after CC's DeAnte' Dennis knocked down a jumper for two of 11 points with 6:40 remaining in the game, but from that point on Colorado College scored just one point.

CC misfired on its final three shots from the floor and four other possessions ended in turnovers. Meanwhile, TU sank six of 10 free throws while closing out the game on a 10-1 run.

"I was really pleased with our growth as a team this weekend," head coach Jeff Conarroe said. "After only four real practices since November, I thought we had a lot of bright spots and began to come together as a team.

"Our effort was outstanding, our guys competed and really played hard, and I was exceptionally pleased with our rebounding effort today. We will be able to go back and study the film, improve our execution on both ends of the floor and try to get some guys playing better individually."

For the first 53 minutes, neither team led by more than eight points and it appeared the game would come down to the final few possessions.

Taylor Harris gave Colorado College a 24-23 lead when he connected from behind the arc with a little more than eight minutes remaining in the first half, but Trinity reclaimed the lead on a triple from Enzo Sechi. TU maintained a single-digit advantage until Jack McRoskey tied the game at 49-49 on a three-point play with 11:13 remaining in the second half.

Dennis and Scott Cunningham led CC with 11 points apiece.

The game was a statistical draw with the exception of free throws. Colorado College committed 27 fouls and Trinity converted on 17 of 29 free throws. CC was 3-for-6 at the line.

Both teams shot a little under 40 percent from the floor and from behind the three-point line, and Colorado College finished the game with a 40-39 edge in rebounds.

Trey Crawford led CC with 12 rebounds
