EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) women's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 6-0 win over Texas Lutheran University on Saturday at the UTRGV Soccer and Track & Field Complex.

UTRGV (5-5-2) didn't waste any time to get on the board as sophomore Sarah Bonney put in her first goal of the season 41 seconds into the game. Bonney got the pass from sophomore Dianah Ansah and ricocheted it into the goal giving UTRGV the 1-0 lead.

Freshman Gina Steiner also recorded her first goal of the season as she gave UTRGV the 2-0 lead at the 21:39. Bonney dribbled into the box and found Steiner who put it into the left corner of the goal.

Junior Daniela Cantu pushed the UTRGV lead 3-0 at the 42:23 with her first goal of the season.

In the second half, UTRGV didn't let up as freshman Jada MacLean took the pass from graduate student Andreya Barrera and put it into the far left corner of the goal for her second of the season which made it 4-0 at the 81:16.

Barrera got in on the fun as well as she put another goal in for UTRGV just 32 seconds after MacLean's with her fourth of the season. She took the deep shot from the top of the box over the out stretched arm of the goalie that made it 5-0.

One minute later, junior America Martinez put the finishing touches on the scoring as she scored her second goal of the season with a deep shot from beyond the box at 82:18.

Texas Lutheran (3-5-1) took just three shots on the night as UTRGV 28 total shots with 17 of them on goal. Texas Lutheran goalie Stephanie Barrientos (3-4-1) took the loss as she recorded four saves.

Senior Erica Gonzalez (4-2-1) earned the victory while making two saves on the night.
