Black, Houska Fuel Victory Over Dallas

Box Score CooXooEii Black and Eric Houska combined for 52 points to lead the Colorado College men's basketball team to an 89-80 victory over the University of Dallas in the regular-season finale on Saturday afternoon at Reid Arena.  

The Tigers improved to 12-13 overall and 7-7 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and could finish as high as the fourth seed for next week's conference tournament which will be played at CC for the first time.

Black connected on 12 of 14 shots from the floor en route to a career-high 29 points. The sophomore forward completed his eighth double-double of the season with a game-high 12 rebounds.

Houska finished with 23 points, his 10th game this season with 20 or more. The senior guard also dished a team-high five assists and joined Verdel Baskin (1995-99) and Ryan Milne (2010-14) as the only three players in program history to record 400 or more.

Junior guard Edmund Pendleton also reached double-digits with 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.

Colorado College took a 52-39 on senior winger Ryan Young's dunk 1:56 into the second half, however UD responded with an 11-2 run to pull to within four points on a three-point play by freshman guard Joshua Nunn.

CC answered with back-to-back three-pointers by Pendleton and sophomore guard Eric Jonas push its lead back to 10.

The Crusaders battled back to within five points when freshman guard Michael Wambsganss hit a three-pointer with 4:33 to go, but Colorado College responded with a 6-1 spurt to go up by 10 with 2:10 to play.

After Wambsganss hit a jumper with 1:05 remaining to trim UD's deficit to 84-78, the Tigers sealed the victory by sinking five of six free throws during the final 58 seconds.

Spencer Levi scored 22 of his game-high 30 points in the second half to keep the Crusaders within striking distance. The freshman forward also grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out six assists.

Wambsganss went 4-for-8 from behind the arc and finished with 14 points.

After Dallas tied the game at 23-23 on three-pointer by freshman guard Dustin Mathis, the Tigers ran off 10 unanswered points to take their first double-digit lead.

CC led 46-33 after senior guard John Hatch sank a pair of free throws with 1:06 remaining in the first half, but the Crusaders scored the final four points to trim their deficit to nine after 20 minutes.

Junior guard Darrius Colvin produced 10 points and five assists for UD, which slipped to 15-10 overall and 8-6 in the SCAC.
